カスタム・フィールドの使い方
WordPress では投稿者は各投稿にカスタム・フィールド（特別な入力欄？）を割り当てることができる。カスタム・フィールドには、今読んでいる本やその投稿を書いているときに聴いていた音楽のようなものを入れるといいかもしれない。
使用法
Currently Reading（今読んでいる本）という名称のカスタム・フィールドを追加してみよう。私は今「Calvin and Hobbes」を読んでいる。次の説明ではカスタム・フィールドを使用してこの情報を投稿に追加する方法を実際にやってみる。
1) Advanced Editing（詳細な編集）画面で新しい投稿を作成する。簡易編集画面を使用しているのなら「Publish（公開）」ボタンの隣に「Advanced Editing »（詳細な編集 »）」ボタンが見えるはずなので、それをクリックすれば詳細編集画面を開くことができる。
2) 投稿を書いた後、その詳細編集画面の一番下の部分までスクロールする。「Custom Fields（カスタム・フィールド）」とタイトルのついた部分が見えるはずだ。
3)「Currently Reading」という名の新しいカスタム・フィールドを作成するには、「Key（キー）」というタイトルのついているテキスト入力欄に「Currently Reading」と入力する（カギ括弧なしで）。
4) 次に新しく作成された Key（キー）に Value（値）を割り当てる。この例では今読んでいる本「Calvin and Hobbes」になるので「Calvin and Hobbes」をこの Value（値）に入力する（カギ括弧なしで）。
5) 「Add Custom Field（カスタム・フィールドを追加）」ボタンをクリックしてこの投稿用のカスタム情報を保存する。

カスタム・フィールドの表示
さて、これで投稿にカスタム・フィールドやメタ値を追加したわけだが、それがブログ上に表示されるとすばらしいだろう。各投稿のカスタム・フィールドを表示するには、the_meta() テンプレート・タグを使用する。このテンプレート・タグのページの説明と例は読めばすぐに分かるはずだ。
また、メタ・タグの表示にすばらしい機能を追加するプラグインもいくつかある。このページのリスト以外のプラグインを探すには Google でカスタム・フィールドのプラグインを検索するいいだろう。
カスタム・フィールドの値を得るには
メタ値を得るには get_post_meta() 関数を使用する：
get_post_meta($post_id, $key, $single);
- $post_id はメタ値を取得する投稿のID番号。投稿のID番号を得るには $post->ID もしくは the_ID() 使用する。
- $keyはお望みのメタ値名を含む文字列。
- $single は true もしくは false の値をとる。true を設定すると単一の結果を文字列として返す。false もしくは何も設定しないとカスタム・フィールドの配列を返す。
